Beyond the horizon. Lessons from KEEN-Regions.

Excerpt:
The KEEN Regions final conference takes place on 17 April 2012 at the Committee of the Regions 1:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

KEEN-Regions has aimed to create a collaboration between the 3 Research Driven Clusters in order to expand the potentialities already existing in these regions, combine and integrate their enormous wealth of resources to increase synergies and to complement  one another- all with the common goal of creating a huge potential for research and economic development at the EU level.

In this respect, the Regions of Knowledge project KEEN-Regions tested a creative approach for joint planning of regional innovation strategies taking into account the last European Commission strategies for the economic development. The Smart Specialisation strategy and the next Programme for Research and Innovation, Horizon 2020, have been deepened and analysed in order to utilised some ideas and concepts in the Joint Action Plan implementation.

In fact research-driven clusters, economic development and the valorisation of research infrastructures for the benefit of companies were brought into focus in order to develop an action plan shared among the actors involved and valorised at transregional level.

After 3 years of work, the project is arriving at its end and the KEEN-Regions final conference will take place on April 17th 2012 at the premises of the Committee of the Regions in Brussels.

In the first part keynote speakers will present in detail the concept of smart specialisation and its prospect concrete implications. The research and innovation regional dimension as well as the future perspectives for clusters will be also presented, highlighting the links with the Cohesion policy and the next Programming period.

In the final round table session, regional representatives will share experiences and provide operational inputs for integrating smart specialisation strategies in the forthcoming regional operative programmes.

The conference is free but the registration at keen-regions.eu/signup is mandatory. There is not a deadline, but, for logistic matters, it is advisable to register before the 9th April 2012.
